The CSW|Streisand Center Black Feminism Initiative (BFI) has established two fellowships to support intellectual work that centers Black feminist frameworks of analysis. The Alisa Bierria Graduate Fellowship in Black Feminist Research honors and continues the work of Alisa Bierria, whose writing explores race, intentionality, intimate organizing, anti-Black racism, carceral culture, gendered violence, and anti-carceral approaches to justice. The Mariame Kaba Graduate Fellowship in Black Feminist Research honors and continues the work of Mariame Kaba, whose writing examines policing, abolition, gendered state violence, youth activism, organizing and leadership, interpersonal violence, and anti-carceral approaches to justice.

1. Proposal describing research project or conference paper (maximum 2 single-spaced pages, including works cited)
2. Curriculum Vitae/Resume
3. Unofficial UCLA transcripts (with most recent coursework)
4. One letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with the research for which you are applying
Letter of Recommendation
Letter of recommendation should be uploaded via Submittable. Applicants will list the recommender’s email address in the form and an email will be sent via Submittable (once the application is submitted) to the recommender with instructions on uploading.
ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED. CSW|Streisand Center must receive all required documents, INCLUDING LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION, no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Description
The Center for the Study of Women|Streisand Center invites applications for this year’s faculty research grants to support research and travel expenses, salary stipends, programming and events, equipment, GSRships, or a combination. An explicit connection to the study of feminism, gender, sexuality, and/or women is required.

Criteria
· Applicants must be UCLA senate faculty or non-senate faculty (with an active UCLA appointment during the grant period). All others may inquire about eligibility (email rosa@women.ucla.edu).
· Faculty are not eligible to receive a Faculty Research Grant within three years of their receipt of an earlier one
· Recipients of the grant must agree to the following:
o Submit a brief final report describing the project outcomes by May 2025
o Acknowledge CSW|Streisand Center in all public informational materials and publications resulting from the grant
· Recipients will be recognized at a future CSW|Streisand Center Awards Celebration. CSW|Streisand Center staff will coordinate your attendance accordingly.

The Center for the Study of Women|Streisand Center and the Institute for American Cultures (IAC) established the joint Research Excellence Award for Associate Professors in January 2017. This award consists of a monograph manuscript (or equivalent) workshop to promote continuing excellence in scholarship by UCLA professors at the associate level addressing questions important to the fields of critical race and postcolonial studies and/or gender, sexuality, and ethnic studies.
Nomination Process
Candidates for the award must be nominated by a fellow faculty member (inside or outside of UCLA) committed to organizing the workshop. CSW|Streisand Center-IAC cannot guarantee staff support for organizing the workshop. Please reach out to your department staff to confirm their availability.
Structure of Workshops
Each workshop will feature a distinguished outside reader from the awardee’s field who will prepare detailed written reports in preparation for the workshop discussion. Also invited will be a select group of local colleagues and intellectual interlocutors who will also have had an opportunity to read the manuscript or portions thereof. These workshops will offer awardees an extended and detailed discussion of their manuscript and a pragmatic plan of action for revisions.
